During the early months of 1830, while the Book of Mormon was in the process of being printed, Joseph Smith dispatched a group of trustworthy representatives to Canada to obtain the copyright for the book across the British Commonwealth. Much to the glee of Anti-Mormons, the mission was unsuccessful. Nonetheless, the recent discovery of the text of the revelation that inspired this undertaking, coupled with other historical and legal documentation, offers crucial insights into this often-overlooked but significant event in the early history of the Restoration.Â
