AND THE BOOK OF MORMON
AND THE BOOK OF MORMON
Since the Book of Mormon was first published, LDS critics have often claimed there is no archaeological evidence supporting its authenticity. However, this claim is predictably off the mark. Compelling archaeological findings related to the Book of Mormon have emerged, supporting different interpretations of its geography. Two main theories dominate current discussion: the Mesoamerican theory, which locates Book of Mormon lands in Central and South America, and the Heartland theory, which identifies North America as the setting. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has not taken an official position on the precise geography, and neither will this website. However, this page explores both perspectives and the archaeological evidence and arguments associated with each.
